The answer is no.
Then people start questioning if their intercooler fan actually works at all.
Testing The Fan
You can disconnect the electrical connector and apply a ground and 12v connection. The fan should spin. However, just because the fan works, doesn’t mean it’s being switched on by the ECU.
Testing The Fan Switching
The intercooler fan is switched on when the AIT sensor decides that the air is too warm. The fan draws air over the intercooler which cools the air down.
To see if it’s working correctly, you can remove the AIT sensor and heat it up with a hot air gun or hair dryer.
Mine Comes On When The Car Is Off
Yes, after driving it continues to monitor the air temperature until it drops to a base level. When you drive a car and stop, the heat from the engine will rise and cause heat soak. The fan may come on a few times to bring the temperature down.
My Fan Doesn’t Come On
The AIT sensor may be faulty. The wiring to the fan may be damaged or there may be an issue with the ECU.
