Err, What?

Smart assemble parts into cars but they don’t make many of the parts. Smart contracts a manufacturer to create parts that they specialise in.

So?

The problem is that, as time goes on, smart are discontinuing parts.

Pattern Parts

These are parts that are similar. They fit and work and can be cheaper but the quality can suffer. I guess it depends how important the part is to the safe and reliable operation of the car.

OEM Parts

So, if you want parts and either don’t want to pay smart’s prices or smart have discontinued the part, you need to buy the part elsewhere but from the original manufacturer.
Many OEM parts will actually have the manufacturer name on it somewhere.

Parts

This is a general overview of OEM parts and manufacturers. This is only parts that you could buy from a 3rd party parts supplier, so does not include things like the SAM unit (Siemens VDO) or plastic panels (Borealis AG) which could only be bought directly from smart.
