As you can probably see, this 450 needed a new carpet. I can’t remember exactly what the lady said happened but a large section had been cut out for some odd reason. I couldn’t sell the car like this.
Disconnect the battery negative terminal. Remove the seats. Click.
Look at the trim that goes around the gear lever mechanism and under the handbrake. There’s a cap that can be levered up to uncover a Torx15 screw to remove.
Remove the gear knob, have a look here if you don’t know how to do that. Click. You can now lift the cover piece up from the front to remove it from the car.
On the right hand drive model, you just have to remove the brake pedal. Have a look here. Click.
If you have a left hand drive car, the accelerator pedal is also hinged from the floor.
Just remove the bolts in each corner…
…and then disconnect the electrical connection.
Look up at the top outside edge of the carpet near the pedals, there is a fixing. Unscrew it by hand from the stud.
Lift the centre of the carpet over the gear lever mechanism and pull the carpet towards the rear of the car.
Rear Carpet
If you have removed the front carpet, the rear carpet can just be lifted out. If you haven’t removed the front carpet…
Disconnect the battery negative terminal. Remove the seats. Click.
You can now lift the rear carpet section out.
Why Would I Need To Remove The Carpet?
I have removed 5 carpets from various smarts. 3 were damaged like above or from excessive wear due to having no floor mats.
The other 2 were from Roadsters that had water ingress issues. The carpets were soaked so I removed them to aid drying.
