Recently I’ve read an increased number of people with windscreen washer problems. The pump is spinning but the flow is weak or takes too long to get going. I started having the same issue on my 2021 fortwo EQ. It was taking 5 seconds before the fluid sprayed from the nozzles.

So, let me tell you how to change the squirter pump and something to check that means you might not even need to fit a new pump.

This guide is for right hand drive models only because I only have a right hand drive model.

Washer Pump Removal

You know when someone says that something is a “5 minute job” and it takes all day? Thankfully this really is an easy 5 minute job.

Open the bonnet to reveal the filler neck that runs down to the washer fluid tank. The pump is clipped into the bottom of the tank because that’s how gravity works.
