Take a torch with you. Look to the centre of the car and you’ll see the cabin fan. Just forward of the fan, you’ll see another connector. This is the heater resistor.
Squeeze the tab on the top and bottom of the connector and pull the electrical connection out.
Top and bottom, you’ll find 2x Torx20 screws. Remove both and loose neither.
Remove the cover…
…and you’ll reveal the resistor. Grab it and pull it from the heater box.
You now have the heater resistor in your hand. Exciting huh!
What Does It Do?
It takes the power going to the heater and passes it through a selection of resistors before passing it to the fan. Depending on the number of resistors the power goes through, it reduces the power and therefore adjusts the fan’s speed. The reason it sits in the cabin air box and has a big heatsink is that the resistors create heat so the air passing through the cabin air box will keep it cool.
