1 Antilock Braking System
Lights up when ignition is switched on and goes out when engine is started or no more than 10 seconds. Light will flash when ABS is being used, you will probably feel vibrations through the brake pedal. If the light stays illuminated the ABS is faulty and should be repaired.
2 Brake System Indicator
Lights up when ignition is switched on and goes out when engine is started or no more than 10 seconds. Lights up when the handbrake is applied. If the light stays illuminated there is a fault in the brake system or the fluid is low.
3 High Beam Indicator Light
Illuminates when full beams are on or full beams are flashed.
4 Airbag Check Light
Lights up when ignition is switched on and goes out when engine is started or no more than 4 seconds: System OK. Light goes out for a second and illuminates again and stays on: Fault detected. Light flashes for 15 seconds: Smart baby carrier identified, Passenger front airbag and side airbags deactivated. Light flashes permanently: Fault with child seat recognition system.
5 ESP Indicator Light
Electronic Stability Protection light flashes when in use. Light stays lit during ESP malfunction. Light will stay lit when a trust+ deactivation plug is fitted.
6 Rear Fog Light
Illuminates when the rear fog lamp is switched on. This should only be used when it is very foggy
7 Turn Signal Indicators
Light flashes when the indicator lever is used and when the hazard lights are activated. If a turn signal bulb fails the light will flash at double the speed.
8 Battery Indicator Light
Lights up when ignition is switched on and goes out when engine is started. If it illuminates during a journey or after the car has started the battery may be faulty or not being charged.
9 Oil Pressure Indicator Light
Lights up when ignition is switched on and goes out when engine is started. If it illuminates during a journey or fails to go out on start up check the oil levels before consulting a smart dealer.
10 Heater Booster Indicator Light (Diesel Only)
Can only be switched on if the engine is running, Switches on when the heater selection slider is over to the right.
11 Preheat Indicator Light (Diesel Only)
Illuminates when the ignition is switched on, when it goes out the engine is ready to start.
12 Engine Management Check Light
Lights up when ignition is switched on and goes out when engine is started or no more than 10 seconds. If it illuminates during a journey, stop the car, turn the engine off and on again 10 seconds later.
If it stays illuminated contact your local smart centre or 3rd party smart specialist. A fault has been logged in the SAM or ECU and this light illuminates to make you aware of this. It can come on for 1 of 1000 different reasons. The car must be attached to a diagnostics machine to have the specific fault code read which will narrow down the fault.
Faulty Bulbs
If you don’t see a sign light up when you think it should you may want to check the bulbs. They are 509T twist fit style bulbs that are very common on many cars, The base of the bulb will tell you the wattage of the bulb.
Orange base = 1.1 watt
Beige base = 1.2 watt
Green base = 2 watt
Each bulb hole is numbered and there is a diagram to show you what each one does.
