The heater and ventilation controls are located near the top of the centre console and comprises of four sliders to select the appropriate settings.
1- Selects either fresh or recycled air.
2- Air temperature.
3- Air direction.
4- Fan power.
In Detail
1- Fresh air is taken from outside the car, recycled air is taken from the cabin.
2- Air temperature is adjusted from cold to hot and anywhere in between.
3- Air can be channeled upwards over the inside of the windscreen, forwards from the dash mounted heater balls and centre vent or downwards into the footwells. Mid-way selections can be made.
4- The fan has four stages, 0, 1, 2 and 3. 0 is off and 3 is full power.
When the fan power is set to 3, a certain amount of air is directed at the windscreen even if that air direction is not selected.
Adjusting The Airflow
When the dash vents are selected to deliver the air, the three vents can be manually adjusted to direct the air as needed. The balls located on top of each side of the dash can be rotated 360 degrees and can tilt up and down to a certain degree. The centre vent also has slight adjustability. Using the knob in the centre of the vent will allow you to direct the air in a restricted range.
Heater Booster
The heater booster is only available on the diesel smart and is electrically powered. It supplements the heat until the standard coolant powered heater is up to full temperature. To activate the heater booster the air temperature slider (slider 2) should be moved all the way over to the right. A light will illuminate on the speedo to indicate the heater is on. To turn the heater booster off, slide the heater away from the right hand side. Using the electric heater booster will increase the fuel consumption.
