Gear Box Controller – TCU – GDU

Unlike the 450 and Roadster, the 451 fortwo had a separate gear box controller. It’s under the carpet under the left hand seat.

It has 3x 10mm nuts holding it down and 2 electrical connectors. Before disconnecting anything else, disconnect the battery.

The most common fault for the GDU (Gearbox Drive Unit) failing is water ingress that gets into the car and sits under the seats.

The gearbox controller doesn’t have a seal so it’s not waterproof.
