In November 2019, smart facelifted the front to give it 1 single larger grill and the indicators were moved into the headlights.
Can You Facelift The Old Model?
Yes. The actual substructure of the panels are the same between models. I have highlighted everything that needs to be changed.
Bonnet, grill, bonnet catches, bumper, fog light holders (if you have fog lights), lower splitter, arch liners, headlights.
Why Headlights, The Look The Same?
They are exactly the same shape. The issue is what’s below the headlight. The indicators.
On the new panels, there are no indicators because the facelift headlights have them built in.
How Much In Total?
Here’s the reason I know you won’t bother. Minimum, £1500. Maximum £2500 and these prices will increase every year since smart stopped producing most parts in 2024.
As of the time I wrote this (early 2025) the halogen facelift headlights are about £700 a pair. The LED headlights are £1000 a pair.
The panels are about £700 total but that is assuming that they are available pre-coloured. Smart are selling out very quickly so your only option may be plain panels that you’d have to get painted. Expect painting to be around £500.
Do I Need Replacement Arch Panels?
No. The arches are the same on both models.
Can I Just Fit The Facelift Headlights?
No. You have to mess around with wiring and coding as shown here – click.
Is This The Same Information For The ForTwo And ForFour?
Yes.
Can You Tell Me The Part Numbers?
No. It’s too much hassle.
They are different part numbers for every different colour and different part numbers for the ForTwo and ForFour.
