Key Blade Doesn’t Work In The Lock

So, the battery went flat but you have the key. You might be lucky. Obviously 1st try spraying the inside of the lock and the key blade in oil, just in case it’s a bit corroded inside. Give the key a bunch of “in and out” and a load of “side to side twisties” and it might free up.

However, if that doesn’t work, all is not lost.

If you have a spare car battery, some jump leads, maybe a long screwdriver or metal pole and a good jack (and a total disregard for your own wellbeing), you could try re-energising the car from a different point.
The positive battery cable runs from the battery to the alternator and on to the starter motor. The battery and starter motor are well hidden but it is possible to get to the positive terminal of the alternator.

Jack the car up, secure it with jack stands, throw yourself under the car and try not to get killed. You’ll probably need help but the person under the car needs to look at the back of the alternator, find the connector with the biggest cable coming from it. Using a long screwdriver or metal pole, you need to make contact with the positive terminal AND NOTHING ELSE. Remember that the body of the car is earthed. Once happy, attach the positive clamp of the jump leads to the screwdriver and to the positive of the spare battery. HOLD STILL!

Now your helper just needs to connect the negative clamp to the battery and the other end to a part of the engine. The exhaust clamp should be fine. Now they can press the unlock button and hopefully, the car will unlock.
