Even when the car is off, the wipers keep going continuously. The only way to stop it seems to be to disconnect the battery. However, as soon as you connect it back up, the wipers start going mad again.
If you check the errors codes with MB Star, you may see B120F11. Alternator malfunction or a LIN Bus fault to the SAM-D.
If you use a generic code reader, you could get anything.
What Has Failed Catastrophically?
Nothing. It’s just Fuse 29 has blown.
What Caused That?
Fuses can just blow but more often than not, it’s because you jump started the car or have just reconnected the battery. The voltage spike can just blow a weak fuse.
How Can That Cause These Problems?
The fuse in question powers one of the control units. The LIN communication bus drops out and the car panics. Without the correct data, the alternator doesn’t charge the battery and the car thinks it’s torrential rain outside because the rain sensor runs off the same LIN bus. Because of this, the car runs the wipers all the time.
