453 Original Style
Before smart transistioned over to the flip key style, we had this crappy Renault key.

Flip it over and…

…remove the screw.

The blade can be pulled out if you want. You don’t have to.
![](/wp-content/uploads/smartelectrics/key/453/453d.jpg)
Pull the 2 halves apart and you’ll see the CR2016 battery in the base.

Flip Key
After about a year, smart then adopted the Renault flip key.
![](/wp-content/uploads/smartelectrics/key/453/flip1.jpg)
Jam a flat object like a screwdriver, coin etc into the gap and twist.
![](/wp-content/uploads/smartelectrics/key/453/flip2.jpg)
The halves come apart and the battery will be obvious.
![](/wp-content/uploads/smartelectrics/key/453/flip3.jpg)
The battery is a CR2032 (unlike the previous key type). These will last longer.

Fit the battery with the + side facing down.
