To gain access to the headlights, you have to remove the front bumper, see here.
This is what you’ll be left with.

Using a 10mm hex or Torx30, remove the inner bolt.

Look at the front edge of the arch panel and remove these 2 bolts also.

This disconnects it from the body and the arch panel.

On the edge of the scuttle panel, just behind the headlight is a foam piece…

…that can be pulled out to reveal…

…the clip holding the headlight in place. Reach behind and push the clip up with a finger…

…and pull the headlight out.

Disconnect any electrical connections and this will allow you to remove the light from the car.
If you are fitting a replacement headlight, don’t forget to swap this bracket over.

Fortwo & Forfour Headlight Differences
Thankfully, smart saw fit to put tabs for both types of car onto the same headlight.

Here’s the headlight fitted to a fortwo using the inner lower bracket..

Here’s the same headlight fitted to a forfour using the inner upper bracket.

On the forfour, the bottom inside bracket isn’t used, instead there is a plastic piece that screws on behind the headlight…

…that simply reaches down…
