This is the smaller 22 litre tank but the later model had a larger 33 litre tank. Removal is the same but there are a few more fixings to remove.
Drain as much fuel from the tank as you can. If you don’t, the tank could weigh in excess of 25kg and subsequent removal of the fuel pump could see you bathing in a waterfall of fuel.
Remove the rear panels and the fuel filler flap and then remove the Torx25 bolt found inside.
This bolt holds the filler neck in place and also clamps the earth connection to the body.
Remove the arch liner on the filler flap side. Look under the filler flap area and you’ll see a protection plate.
Remove the Torx E12 bolts and remove the plate.
Disconnect the pipes from the top of the engine. These are fuel in, fuel out and fuel tank breather.
Lower the engine cradle slightly to give clearance for the filler neck.
Place a jack under the fuel tank. On the front edge are Torx E10 bolts, remove these…
…and on the back there is a single Torx E10 bolt to remove. The larger version of the fuel tank may have double the fixings shown.
You can now hinge the tank down at the front. Reach in and disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
Lower and remove the jack. Shuffle the tank forwards and down and…
…it’ll come out of the car.
