Why?
Fitment
The 600cc steering wheel is just a steering wheel. The 700cc steering wheel with a built in steering angle sensor.
The 600cc steering wheel has 1 connection that passes through the clock spring cable and feeds the paddles, horn and airbag.
The 700cc steering wheel has 2 connections. The 1st is the same as the 600cc steering wheel but the other is for the angle sensor.
The 600cc Smart Fortwo doesn’t use the steering angle sensor so you can fit a 700cc Smart Fortwo/Roadster steering wheel and just plug in 1 connection.
If you fit a 600cc steering wheel to a 700cc car, you’ll get a shed load of error lights.
Paddles
The 600cc steering wheel and the 700cc steering wheel have different resistances for the paddles.
The 600cc Smart Fortwo uses a separate box to control the paddle signals.
The 700cc has a software update in the speedo to control the paddle signals.
