Let the handbrake down. This releases the grip on the self adjusting ratchet mechanism.
Look at the hinge end of the handbrake assembly, you’ll see 3x E12 bolts. Remove them.
Disconnect the handbrake switch connector.
You can now lift the handbrake level straight up to remove it.
The ratcheting tab that sticks out of the floor must have the ratchet facing left and the valley side facing right as shown below.
When you refit the mechanism, slide the base down onto the tab and replace the bolts.
