Lift up the top steering column cover to unclip it.
Look underneath the lower steering column cover to find the 2 securing bolts. Remove them.
Pull the lower cover down and the upper cover upwards…
…and you’ll see the steering angle sensor.
Look underneath the sensor for the electrical connector.
Press in the lower tab and disconnect the electrical connector by pulling it towards the front of the car. Don’t pull it from the wires.
Now go back to the steering angle sensor. It’s held into position using 3 screws. Remove them and pull the sensor towards the rear of the car to remove it from the steering column.
Checking The Angle
The steering wheel may be straight but the car is claiming there’s a fault with the steering angle. This will bring the ESP fault light up on the speedo.
Using DDT4All, you can see what angle the car believes the wheel is at. Select the following:
[Direction Assistee] X07_EPS_V3.0
Measurement
2 – Measurement – EPS – Input & Output
On the main screen you will now be able to view the steering wheel absolute position and the calculated position. With the wheel straight, check to see that it shows as close to 0 degrees as possible.
