451 Boot Hinge Pins

The 451 is getting old and despite being hidden away, it’s becoming more common for the boot hinge pins to rust and snap.

Firstly we need to detach the boot from the car to get reasonable access to the hinges. Undo the boot straps on both sides by removing the Torx40 bolt.

Lift up the carpet and look for 2 nuts, position indicated below.

Use a 15mm socket to remove them both.

The boot hatch can now be removed far enough for it to be put in the boot out of the way.

Roy V found it was possible to locate the boot panel further from the car as shown below…

…by simply looking under the boot carpet on the left hand side. Next to the earth point is a fixing that the boot wiring loom is connected to. It’s pushed onto a stud.
