PremiumNo Difficulty Mod ID1836 Creditevilution For Linkhttps://www.evilution.co.uk/mod/451-drop-link-removal.htm Copy to ClipboardThe 451 drop links are fairly easy to remove (unlike the 450 fortwo and Roadster). They look like this, see below.
The silver one is standard and the black one was the replacement.
You will need a 17mm ring spanner and a 5mm allen key, however, a 17mm ratchet can also speed things up.
Loosen the wheel, jack the front of the car up and remove the wheel. Do yourself a favour and spray the top and bottom with penetrating lubricant.
Put the 17mm ring spanner onto the nut and put the 5mm allen key into the end of the thread to stop it spinning.
Repeat the action with the bottom nut and remove the old drop link. These are the ones that I used but there are several options. Don’t go cheap.
Fit the new drop links and tighten the top and bottom nuts. Torquing them to the correct tightness will be tricky but tighten them by hand first before attempting to use a torque wrench set at 58Nm.
Pay attention to both ends because the top and bottoms are cranked at 90 degrees from each other.
Left lower stud faces right, left upper stud faces forwards. See below.
Right lower stud faces left, right upper stud faces backwards. See below.
