The air bag controller is sitting right in the middle. Since we are playing with air bags, at least disconnect the battery earth.
It’s held in with 3 screws into the lower dash crossmember.
You’ll need a Torx30 screwdriver. The problem is the access is still bad…
…because of the centre bracket. So remove the top Torx30 bolts…
…and the lower Torx30 bolt. The bracket can be moved out the way to give you better access to the screws holding the controller in position.
The controller can swing down…
…so just detach the electrical connections by pushing in the button and swing the green tabs over.
Fitting A 2nd Hand Unit
If yours has failed, you are thinking about fitting a 2nd hand one huh. Wrong!
For a start, there are 2 different types.
The other issue is that they are coded to the car’s VIN code which is stored in other electrical controllers. If you fit another used controller, the airbag light won’t go out and you’ll get error codes for the controller coding being incorrect. You will probably have to have your unit cloned onto a replacement.
