So, you want to remove the outside mirror cap since it’s been smashed to pieces or you want to paint it. Firstly, you have to remove the mirror. See here. With the mirror removed, you can see 3 screws holding the adjuster in place. Remove them with a Torx10 bit.

The adjuster can be moved out of the way. Electric adjusts can be unplugged if you want although it’s not necessary.
