Welcome to the site known worldwide as evilution.

The site dedicated to almost everything about smart cars.

I decided not to do any filming this weekend so I added more guides

I got in a waste disposal guy in a cage truck and finally cleared all the broken smart parts that I threw down the side of the workshop plus a load of stuff that was being stacked up in the workshop. So I have a bit more room.

I have been really bogged down with VAT and accounts but also an administration issue with the website. I had to increase the subscription cost as mentioned in a previous news post. I thought it would be as easy as logging into PayPal and Stripe or into the plugin that the site uses to create subscriptions and then just change the prices. But oh no, that would be too easy. After a lot of research, I decided the only way to do it was to manually adjust every single account, one by one. It takes about 1 minute per account which isn’t bad until you realise there’s 4000 accounts to do. That’s 66 hours of continuous work! I tried to see how many I could do in 1 sitting and at 200 I was flagging. So I’m just trying to keep ahead of the renewals whilst also continuing to do research on PayPal APIs as apparently they can fix all the PayPal accounts immediately which would only leave me a weekend’s worth of work to fix the Stripe accounts.

I may have to hire an Indian coder to look into it.

Help me increase my YouTube watch hours by watching a load of my videos. This is my most recent “silly video”.

Slightly more room

The old 451 ED is gone so that gave me a bit more room. I filled it full of old car parts which freed up even more space! I also managed to get rid of the cross trainer machine that the girl friend came home with 5 years ago, stuck in my workshop and then only used for the 1st year. For the next 4 years it was used to stack car parts on. No one buys these new I swear, I think they are all 2nd hand, So I put it on my local FaceBook page and within 10 minutes it was in the back of the smart and I dropped it off. I’m so glad to get it out of the way.

I have managed to get over 3000 watch hours on YouTube but I need to get over 4000 watch hours before I can start making money from the adverts. So please head over to my YouTube channel, watch everything and subscribe.
I’ve just bought a new camera so now I just need to decide what the next project will be. I really want to buy a cheap damaged Crossblade but the chances of that are very slim.

I have probably 100,000 photos of different things ready to be turned into how-to pages but since I’m now busy with these bloody accounts, I’m really only finding time at the moment to add things if people ask for something specific. Currently I’m going through the wiring diagrams to try and retrofit a 453 heated steering wheel, so hopefully that’ll appear soon.

Thanks to all of you for your support. No one has moaned about the price increase yet. I started charging 12 years ago and this is only the 2nd price increase. I don’t for-see any more in the future because I don’t want to price people out of viewing information and manually adjusting all of the accounts one by one is time consuming and rather annoying.

Good news! The Government is forcing me to increase the subscription cost.

I wouldn’t say I’ve been lazy over the last month but I have been a bit disheartened over a few things which reduced my productivity. The Hashtag 1 YouTube rebuild is going slowly and it was at the body shop for over 3 weeks. So I started playing with the CO2 laser engraver that I bought about 18 months ago. Problem is that it’s a big unit so that took up a lot of room plus the exhaust and cooling pipes, not to mention all the plastic that I was test cutting and engraving. The only reason I got it running was because a friend needed stuff cutting so I had to make sure it worked and I knew how to use it.

Then I got the new fibre galvo laser out. It’s a small unit but that took up a bit of room. I also had a full set of 20″ alloys and separate tyres. A replacement wheel for my girlfriend’s car since hers was so badly corroded that it leaked. Add to that my dead 451 ED that I should have stripped for parts and had scrapped by now, but I haven’t so that’s in the way. Another 3rd of the workshop is full of old parts from previously stripped cars. This was because back in 2020, there was mention of an eBay style sale area for members to sell their stuff. It never materialised and now the parts have been in the way for about 3 years so I’ll probably just cut my losses and stuff as much as I can inside the 451 ED when I scrap it.

The lack of space really made it impossible to do anything so very little got done.

For years I have been balancing the income of evilution ltd to keep it under the VAT threshold. It’s not just from subscriptions to the site. I also sell stuff on Etsy. Well, somehow I broke the threshold (although I think the accountant just calculated it incorrectly) so now I’m going to have to add 20% on the subscription prices. However, that’s still less than the amount of inflation we’ve had since 2019 and running the site is costing me quite a lot more now. £24 for a year is still only £2 a month. The extra 33p a month isn’t going to make you homeless.

I won’t just be coasting though. Even though the extra 20% will go straight to the Government every quarter, I have been creating more custom merch that I’ll be releasing soon.

A good mixture of stuff on this update.

So, I bought a crashed Hashtag 1 Brabus and started repairing it. Today I went for the first test drive. HOLY SHIT! That thing scared the pants off of me. They say 0 – 60 in 3.9 seconds but it’s definitely quicker. I just need to sort out some dents and some paint.
Also good news is that the magic coders from vone.services have fixed a long running email issue that was causing 95% of my emails to go directly to spam. We have all the DKIMs and DMARCs now (whatever the fuck that is) so now they aren’t seen as suspicious.

Come and subscribe to my YouTube channel. I have fixed some 453’s, currently the releasing videos are of the Hashtag 1 Brabus being fixed and then it’ll move on to dismantling a 451. It’s not really informative, it’s more for just entertainment and time wasting.

Doing the website and YouTube is tricky.

Plans never work which is why I rarely plan. It annoys me when you make plans and then none of them happen. So just don’t plan.

I had ideas of getting rid of 1 car and then getting a cheap project car. The opposite happened. I got a car back and bought the most expensive project car for my YouTube channel. It cost more than my most expensive new smart I ever bought. To make things worse, the new expensive car was bought crash damaged. OK, on to the site updates.
